It’s officially fall as of the end of September! We don’t know about you, but we can practically taste crisp apple cider and pumpkin-flavored everything in the cool air. Oh, wait, that’s just our imagination-- we forgot we were in south Florida for a second! There’s so much to love about our state, but one of its downfalls is the fact that we don’t get to experience a classic autumn like the rest of the country. Feeling left out? Don’t worry! There are lots of things you can still do in south Florida to make it feel more like fall. Keep reading for our top tips on how to experience fall in our tropical state.
One of the simplest ways to make it feel more like fall is in your own home! Bring autumn to you by incorporating cool tones and fall-themed items in every room of the house. Here are some of our favorites:
Whether or not you have a fireplace, adding this decorative log bundle to your entryway or coffee table can instantly cozy up your space. This item includes three birch logs tied up with a rustic rope, and the best part is that each one is uniquely made!
Something else that can warm up your home in a quite literal sense are candles! These long, decorative beeswax candles from a small shop on Etsy come in ivory, olive, terracotta, natural yellow, or brown, so you can pick which fall color would best fit in the room you want.
- Lambswool throw blanket - Holistic Habitat
What pattern comes to mind when you think of fall? For us, that’s plaid! Incorporate the autumnal pattern with this cozy throw blanket; “throw” it on your couch or any chair in your living room, or place it on your bed!
- Textured glass amber pumpkins - Pottery Barn
This list wouldn’t be complete without at least one pumpkin item! These glass pumpkins are meant to hold faux mini candles to add a glow to your space; they’d look great as a centerpiece on your coffee table or dining table at Thanksgiving!
Even in the hotter weather, south Florida still has ongoing fall events that you’d find in more northern climates! From pumpkin patches to corn mazes, here are some of our favorite events coming this fall:
- Bedner’s Farm Fresh Market Pumpkin Patch
While not technically an “event,” every fall, Bedner’s Market grants Floridians admission into their pumpkin patch! Throughout the month of October for just $22/person, Bedner’s offers pumpkin picking, tractor rides, a corn maze, and more fall festivities!
- Grace Community Church Fall Festival
On Friday, October 29, the Grace Community Church in Boca Raton will host its annual fall festival, complete with pony rides, a “trunk-or-treat,” candy, games, music, and more. This is a great one to attend with young children!
- Harvest Festival at the Flamingo Gardens
Every weekend for the month of October, the Flamingo Gardens in Davie are putting on their harvest festival. Put this on your fall to-do list if you’ve been wanting to experience a hayride, themed scavenger hunts, and fall/harvest-themed photo-ops!
Feel like you need to experience the season for itself but don’t want to stray too far? We’ve got you covered with that, too! Take a fall road trip to this location to see the leaves change…
- F.D. Roosevelt State Park - Georgia
Classic autumn is experienced just one state away, so if you really want to see the real deal, why not take a road trip to Georgia? Peak leaf season is October 19 - November 4 in Georgia, and F.D. Roosevelt State Park is on the “leaf watch” list, making it a top location to see fall foliage. The park is about an 8 ½ hour drive from south Florida, making it a doable road trip destination.
