5 Outdoor Family Activities to do in South Florida

With COVID cooling down and summer heating up, you’re probably searching for fun family activities to add to your repertoire. We get it-- it can be hard to get the whole family together, much less have them all agree on one activity to do. That’s why we’ve compiled a flexible, diverse list of things to do that are sure to satisfy everyone! Since these are all outside activities, be sure to always carry snacks, water, and even a mini-fan that you can plug into your smartphone! Keep reading for our top 5 south Florida family fun recommendations.

1. Putt’n Around Mini Golf - Delray Beach

Whether you’re an adult or a kid, mini golf is fun for everyone! Located right near downtown Delray Beach, Putt’n Around offers 36 holes surrounded by beautiful botanical gardens. Visitors can choose between an ocean course or the Everglades course-- or both! Putt’n Around also offers a full-service concession stand with food and drinks (beer and wine for the adults, too!) that can be delivered to you hole-side! They are diligent about safety precautions, too, so you can play with peace of mind. Tickets are $11 for 18 holes and $16 for 36 holes; kids under age 4 are $6 for 18 holes or $9 for 36 holes.

2. Bark Beach at Spanish River - Boca Raton

When we said fun for the whole family, we really meant it! Between lifeguard towers 18 and 20 on Fridays and the weekend, Spanish River Beach opens up its shores to the furry family members in your life! You can beat the harshest heat of the day, too, because their hours are 7-9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to sunset right now. Permits must be purchased for both family and dog, which can be done on the city website or in community centers. Bring a beach ball, a frisbee, or a fun game like spikeball to play, all while including your pup and meeting others, too!

3. Arboretum - Deerfield Beach

If you’ve got nature-lovers in your family, this one’s for you: Located at Constitution Park on Hillsboro Boulevard, Deerfield Beach’s Arboretum, which is nicknamed the “Tree Zoo,” contains about nine acres of land with over 200 diverse tree species from all over the world! Stroll through by walking their half-mile trail, where you’ll be able to spot all of the trees and even a butterfly garden. If you have young children, inventing a scavenger hunt game would be perfect at this location! Once you’re all done, stop into the nursery to bring a piece of nature home with you!

4. Bedner’s Farm Fresh Market - Boynton Beach

Take the whole family to Bedner’s market to get fresh, locally grown produce right from the source! Walk the grounds, take a tour on a tractor trailer, head inside to pick up fresh flowers and food, and even pick your own produce! Right now, Bedner’s has grape tomatoes, cucumbers, and tomatoes available for self-picking. Take the produce you and your family collect and bring it home to make a recipe together!

5. Swap Shop - Lake Worth

Miss going to the movies with your family? You still can at drive-in theaters! Located in Lake Worth, the Swap Shop drive-in theater is a fun, affordable ($7 for adults and $2 for children!) and unique movie-watching experience you can have with your whole family! Visit their website to see all the latest movies they’re showing-- don’t forget the popcorn!
